The line is finally moving.
We have not moved in the last 20 minutes.
30 minutes until keynote.
Still waiting in line.
I am still chatting with Steve, a long time Mac programmer. He is a real nice guy. He has a lot of stories of how the old days were.
I'll blog more when the line starts moving.
We are inside. Roughly the same spot as last year.
I am chatting with a guy named Steve (not Jobs :)) in line.
I took advantage of some free time tonight and I wandered down to the Metreon to go see Star Trek. Since my daughter was been born I have been missing out on the summer movies this year so it was a good treat. I may go try and sneak away one night after dinner/sessions and go see Up. Or maybe I can get one of the other conference guys to go with me.
I am not really sure about the movie itself though. I might have to see it again on disc. The alternate timeline stuff in it allows some flexibility in the characters, but it seemed a little weird to me. The characters were saying their traditional lines, but it didn't completely feel like Star Trek to me. It is no that I hated it, I am just on the fence with the re-imagining. I am going to wait to pass full judgement until I see the movie again.
Of course I remember why I don't go to movies in the theater when there is any chance that a teenager is there. The theater was pretty full with people. This teenage couple were sitting next to me cutely flirting with each other, but they were talking louder than the movie at some points. Thankfully it was mostly at the beginning.
Apple sent out an email today for a special WWDC app that you can only download from ADC (not from iTunes) and then provision your phone with some key. It is pretty nice app. I am not sure I am liking the icon for the app. It looks like it is 4 kids blocks rather than 4 iPhone buttons.
Tomorrow is the big Keynote. Let's hope there are goodies on a number of fronts (Snow Leopard, iPhone, Programming Stuff).
I know I have only been in San Francisco a couple hours, but I think I was made to live in a big city. There is so much going on it puts your mind in a bit of a tailspin, but I actually enjoy it.
It felt good when I got here to take BART (subway) from the airport to the city. You actually see people rather than other cars and a freeway.
Once in the city it actually felt good just to walk, dodge people, wait for the lights to change, avoid cars, hear honking horns.
Of course there are a few things I can do without. You get barraged by people smoking. I was asked 3 times for money and I am not sure I could raise a small daughter in a city like San Francisco. But overall the city definitely has its appeal.
We will see if I have the same opinion at the end of the week. :)
I made it to the hotel and checked into the conference. San Francisco is crazy busy right now with tourists.
The hotel is really nice. It is a lot closer walk than last year. I don't have to walk up a big hill. Although I kind of miss that in some ways.
Free stuff for conference attendees.
The laptop backpack looks to fit a 15", but not a 17". It looked cheap until I got my hands on one. I'll actually probably use it for the conference since it is a bit more streamlined than the laptop case from last year.
Not only was there a delay of an hour here in Utah, but we get all closed up, head out to the runway and we have to turn around because there is a problem with the plane. We are still at the gate right now. Unsure when we will get to leave.
Flying can be the biggest time drain.
On the ground. Flight was near perfect except the end when it got bumpy here in Utah.
Waiting to get off the plane...
We are landing in Utah. Uneventful flight so far. Need to grab some food when I land.
The movie (He Just Isn't In To You) was not bad. Nothing to write home about though.
I fired up the laptop and did some cleanup. I had a number of services running that I would never use again. Amazing what you can learn from firing up the system console.
About an hour until the flight. Here is the gate and the plane.
